Grote Boijmans brandnetel / Urtica dioica Boijmansia
Dat Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen al vier jaar gesloten is wegens renovatie, heeft ook gevolg voor de tuinen van het museum. Sinds er geen publiek meer komt, is het groenonderhoud zichtbaar versloft. In een heg is bijvoorbeeld een hemelboom opgeschoten en de Franse binnentuin is verworden tot een woest graslandschap, dat ook van de grindpaden bezit heeft genomen. Langs het openbare pad in het Museumpark wordt het gras nog wel regelmatig gemaaid maar curieus genoeg wordt daarbij een grote brandnetel telkens gespaard. Gaandeweg heeft die brandnetel zich door vegetatieve vermeerdering ontpopt tot een parmantig bosje. Zou dit brandnetelbosje het resultaat zijn van pure onwetendheid van de tuinman die dit stukje gazon onderhoudt? Of hebben we hier te maken met een symbolische daad van protest tegen een museum dat nog minstens zes jaar gesloten blijft?
Stinging Boijmans nettle / Urtica dioica Boijmansia
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has already been closed for four years because of a major renovation. This has visibly affected the museum’s gardens. Now that these gardens are no longer public territory, maintenance is very low. Therefore a tree of heaven has had the chance to shoot up far above the hedge while the French courtyard has turned into a wild grass landscape where the gravel paths are hardly visible anymore. However, the lawn along the public path in the Museum Park is still mowed regularly. Curiously enough, a stinging nettle is spared each time from being mowed. Through vegetative propagation this nettle has over time developed into a perky bush. Is this bush the result of pure ignorance of the gardener who is contracted to maintain this piece of lawn? Or are we dealing here with a symbolic act of protest against a museum that will remain closed for at least another six years?
